What is TAG?
TAG stand for teacher appreciation gifts. Each student is assigned a teacher and will give them a gift (less than $5) each month. Teachers will be assigned at the beginning of the year and students will meet their teachers at a luncheon at the end of the year. This is to be kept secret.
How many hours do I need?
Member must have 20 service hours by the end of the year. 10 of these hours will be due before winter break and the other 10 will be due at some point in April.
How many meeting do I need to go to?
Members are REQUIRED to go to two meetings per semester. Any additional meetings will be counted as .5 hours.
What happens when/ how do I get deductions?
Deductions will be given for various reasons and will cause members to LOSE hours. Not attending an event a member has volunteered for will result in a deduction the length of said event. Not wearing NHS shirt on meeting day will result in a deduction of .25 hours. Not turning in a TAG on time will result in a deduction of .5 hours and not turning a TAG in at all will result in a deduction of 2 hours.
When do I wear my shirt?
NHS shirts should be worn to ALL NHS volunteer events (unless otherwise stated). Shirts also must be worn to any and all NHS meetings. Do not do anything that will reflect negatively on NHS or Martin High School while wearing your shirt.
What is a mid-semester check?
Mid-semester checks will occur in October and March. HALF (5 hours) of the hours due in that semester will be due at these checks. If you do not have these hours you will be put on probation.
What is/ how do I get probation?
Not fulfilling NHS requirement (hours or academics) will cause a member to be put on probation. A member will be given an opportunity to recover from probation. If a member does not take this opportunity, they will be removed for NHS.
Do hours roll over?
Hours roll over from one semester to another but NOT from one year to another.
I got volunteer hours on my own. Can I use them?
Member can document up to 4 personal hours that they document on a “personal hour documentation” form.
Do I have to volunteer at Young?
Every NHS member is required to get at least one hour at Young each year.
How do I sign up to volunteer?
